Five years ago, Counties Manukau DHB established an innovative mental health service called Peer Support. Peer Support are a team of trained specialists who draw on personal experience of mental ill health to help people in the community manage their own mental health problems. Peer Support successfully brought a fresh patient focused perspective to the clinical setting while helping people to become less reliant on the healthcare system and achieve a better quality of life. Motion Pacific was lucky to be invited to produce a 10 minute video that provided an insight into the Peer Support story from the perspectives of management, staff and patients. Although it was a challenge to balance the requirements of film making with the sensitivities of mental health care, we found the whole project a very educational, inspirational and rewarding experience.
